Rediscovering Calm in a Chaotic World with Mark Williams

October 25, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm UTC+0

$50

In this talk, Oxford Professor Mark Williams (one of the creators of MBCT) reveals how the latest advances in neuroscience, combined with the millennia-old practice of mindfulness, offer a way to transform your life; a new way forward for those struggling with stress and depression.

This latest research explores a deeper layer of mindfulness known as the ‘feeling tone’ – the sense, moment by moment, of whether anything that happens is pleasant or unpleasant. If you are unaware of feeling tones, you are pushed and pulled around by them, often creating cascades of unwanted emotions and impulses.

You can learn to recognize these tipping point moments. So instead of being swept along by a torrent of thoughts, feelings, and emotions that seem to appear from nowhere, you are presented with a series of ‘off-ramps’. This gives you far greater control over your life, enhancing mental health and well-being. And ultimately, it helps you to approach life with renewed strength, vigor, and equanimity.

After the talk, there will be a short Q&A followed by a meet and greet with Mark Williams and the Centre for Mindfulness Studies team. Wine and catering will be provided.
