Mindfulness course: Wednesday evenings

October 9, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm BST

£250.00

This eight-week course combines mindfulness practices and cognitive-behavioural techniques to help reduce low-mood and anxiety. There is increasing evidence that this eight-week mindfulness course is effective in reducing other mental health issues and improving wellbeing and resilience.
The course helps participants develop greater awareness of their thoughts, emotions, and experiences which in turn helps cultivate resilience and reduce depression and anxiety. This mindfulness course was designed originally to help people who experience repeated episodes of depression to prevent relapse. However, it is now recognised as an effective treatment for existing mild to moderate depression (not just preventing relapse) and also helps improve wellbeing and resilience.

WHEN?
Wednesday evenings, 6pm-8pm, starting 9 October to 4 December 2024.

FORMAT:
Two-hour orientation session at the start to help you decide if the course is right for you
Eight weekly two-hour classes (nine weeks in total including the orientation) including mindfulness practices, discussion and exercises
Daily meditation home practice of between 20 to 40 minutes

Bio

We aim to improve the wellbeing and mental health of all people who can benefit from mindfulness. We do this by running mindfulness and compassion programmes, training teachers, and conducting research. The Sussex Mindfulness Centre is part of the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. We are the only mindfulness and Mindful Self-Compassion teacher training and research centre embedded in the NHS. We bring together teachers, teacher trainers and researchers of mindfulness-based approaches. This includes a partnership of Trust staff, experienced researchers at the University of Sussex, and experienced teachers and trainers in the local community. We have good links with local teachers, as well as with trainers and researchers in other mindfulness centres and universities in the UK.
